There are many misconceptions about rock and roll. It may be because many people have associated it with evil, such as drugs and sexual activities. The misconceptions make rock and roll something that many legends and myths originate from usually. The most myths and legends are about rock and roll’s more well-known practitioners. In the ‘70s, the deaths of rock and roll artists were frequently blamed on conspiracies that the government were responsible for committing. Also, some of the artists were the ones who spread rumours about their fantastical feats. It may come as a surprise, but there are still some crazy legends and myths that people talk about to this day. Some people believe them to be accurate, and here are some examples.
The Beatles smoked a joint in a Buckingham Palace’s bathroom
The myth says that the Beatles smoked a joint before they were awarded their Member of the British Empire awards. The truth behind the myth is that John Lennon made that claim. He said that the whole band was nervous so they all smoked a join so they could calm their nerves. Later on, Paul McCartney said that John was joking. But they did smoke a regular cigarette before they met the queen so they wouldn’t be nervous.
Ozzy Osbourne bit live bats’ heads off of their bodies during performances
The myth says that Ozzy Osbourne usually got live bats and bit their heads off as a routine as a part of his crazy performances. It might not be too hard to believe since Ozzy’s performances are usually composed of high shock value. The truth behind the myth is that he did bite a live bat during a live performance, but it was only one time, and it was an accident. Ozzy thought it was a rubber bat prop. But it bit back when he bit down on it, which resulted in him needing to get treatments for rabies. After that incident, he never tried it again.
Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley aren’t dead
The myths say that Jim Morrison is still alive. His grave contains some other person’s body. They also say that Elvis Presley didn’t meet his end back in 1977. He used it as a way to hide from the public. Seclusion is what he wanted to have. The truth behind the myths is that they are dead. Even if there is a plethora of evidence that says they are dead, many people still believe they are both still among the living. Morrison’s body is buried in a cemetery located in Paris. Morrison’s death was due to a heart attack, and some people think that drugs caused it. Elvis is also not alive and is, in fact, dead.
The cause of Cass Elliot’s death was by choking on a sandwich
The myth says that The Mamas and the Papas’ Mama Cass died because of choking on a ham sandwich. The uneaten sandwich was found by her body where she died. The truth behind the myth is that there was a sandwich by the body. But the sandwich wasn’t what caused her to die. The death of Cass was from her crash dieting and obesity. There wasn’t any evidence found that anything was causing a blockage in her windpipe.
